I explained to her that I am not satisfied with my hair. I have this mullet-y piece in the back because my hair is too long at my neckline. Originally, I wanted to grow it out.<br />
<br />
I started showing her pictures of me past. She thinks I should go back to blonde. And B was in the back agreeing (behind my back!).<br />
<br />

<br />
These are actually both from 2009. Its the year B and I started dating and the year I stopped trying to please everyone else. I up and chopped off my hair and bleached it in the first pic (of me holding a friend's dog) and I continued to dye it a blonde hue in the second pic (its from Sepetemer). The pics are roughly 5 months apart, but I loved my hair short and sassy like that. Unfortunately, I couldn't find someone to cut my hair that well again.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This picture is from May 2008. I love the style and the color, but it really takes a lot of patience for me to grow it back to this length. Plus....THE HEAT. Oh. Em. Gee. It was hot to maintain it! I have naturally wavy hair and to get it looking like the picture above, I not only had to straighten it, I had to curl it too. And god forbid the humidity was a beast that day, all my efforts would be wasted and I would just pull it up anyways. Lame.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
Our wedding day, it was back dark and it was shorter, but not as short. This was in 2010 and I was growing it out or something. I don't really remember. I hated having to find a new hairdresser because the one I liked, quit the salon I went to. I gave up after awhile.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTWKgRryIXK7vhCBKsDV86rwQ2hblEiGPtj9i4Aw1IjHUvTgPysb_7DZy7bNlc8HA7JPOw1iBHlPYd93PMpgk043xG8AevkjY7a2cJ0eKM4wAFGWTV3PiiSfAAe4x17f5JAuFrGpktbaI/s1600/jes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTWKgRryIXK7vhCBKsDV86rwQ2hblEiGPtj9i4Aw1IjHUvTgPysb_7DZy7bNlc8HA7JPOw1iBHlPYd93PMpgk043xG8AevkjY7a2cJ0eKM4wAFGWTV3PiiSfAAe4x17f5JAuFrGpktbaI/s320/jes.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
This was earlier this year. I went short again. I loved the cut and the color. In the picture, I was sending it to B and Charity so they could see mama's new do. I wasn't sure because I hadn't "played with it yet". I did love it though. Just we moved away and the original person who cut it, is in Missouri and I am not.<br />
<br />
All in all, the consensus is to go back to blonde, and go short again. It fits my personality and it looks good. What do you think?<br />

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Yes, I am laughing about this. However, this is no laughing matter. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
A few days ago, I was walking Lucky in an area we don't normally walk, I saw a giant anthill. I thought I had avoided it completely. Nope. I kept walking and look down and there were roughly 20 tiny dark red, almost black ants on my left foot. And it felt like it was burning, literally.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I swatted them off and my foot was still burning. There were still a few on there and a few feet away, I got them off. I was seriously freaked out.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
To be honest, we don't have fire ants in Omaha. Not any I had ever run into. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So, I went inside, took some allergy medicine and text B. He immediately called me. He asked what the ants looked like, and told me they were fire ants. I had no idea they were so tiny and evil. (I actually looked up fire ants and there were some sites that said they weren't in Texas, they lied). B had to call me back, he had to find out what to do.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
He calls me back, I had to put anti-itch cream on the bites/stings and PRID, a drawing salve. Also, I needed to stay awake because we had to make sure that I was not allergic to them. See, they can cause a severe allergic reaction to a person and close up an airway. Yes, they can be serious. Thankfully, I am not severely allergic to them and my throat didn't close up. Thank God. He was worried because I had never experienced fire ants.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So, allergy medicine (something like Benadryl), anti-itch cream, and a drawing salve (PRID is natural and I found it at a pharmacy). If your throat closes up, call 911 or have someone take you to an ER immediately. Yes, they are a bite/sting, but if you have never experienced them, you need to take it seriously, just like a bee, wasp, etc sting.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I will not subject you to a picture of my foot. The bites now have white heads, apparently the poison is going to the surface. Do not pop them or scratch them. They need to heal on their own and itching/popping can spread the poison.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This is not all fact, just what worked for me, so far. Consult your doctor if you are concerned and keep away from the ants! I still feel creepy crawlies on my foot/body when I go outside. Yuck.</div>
<div>

<br />
Hello all! I almost didn't post this today, I was going to wait until tomorrow, since it is my birthday! Heyyy!!<br />
<br />
So, my birthday is tomorrow, I will be 29. The first one. I kind of go into shock every time I say that. So, a bit about me...<br />
<br />
I grew up in Omaha, NE. I lived with my dad and brother from 7 to 17. My dad was a hard worker and we started off in a small one bedroom apartment. He now lives in a 4 bedroom, 5 bathroom house. Yea, he worked his butt off for it.<br />
<br />
I had Charity when I was 19. I was just a kid and didn't know what I was doing at all. I wish I was older, more mature, but things happen for a reason. I love her with all my heart. The pregnancy was easy physically, but hard emotionally.<br />
<br />
I got sober at 22. A spring chicken! Ha! I have been sober since. Its not always easy, even after all these years, but it is easier than it was 6 years ago.<br />
<br />
B and I got married at 25 and 35. It was a tiny affair, 8 people there, 20 at the "reception". It was what we wanted, drama free and small. And under $300, including rings.<br />
<br />
That is a bit of a summary of me. I love cooking and crafting. My favorite color is green. I could eat pizza almost every day. I love a good steak and baked potato. I am also a nerd. Bazinga.<br />
<br />

Sorry to disappoint. I am taking day to enjoy the rain and cooler weather. And our TV. I will look completely ashamed and bring you me tomorrow. </p>
<p dir=ltr>In the meantime, I will watch Julie & Julia. </p>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Last weekend, we got a shower curtain and rug for the bathroom! Very exciting. I put the shower curtain up right away but waited to clean and organize the bathroom before putting the rug down. It is so plush. I will give a breakdown of costs and pictures once it is more complete. There is some deeper cleaning that needs to get done, but it is very nice so far. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I also cleaned the closet. It is seriously lacking lots of things, like a shelf or something but it is so much nicer to walk into the bathroom and not open the closet to chaos!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>

We were also given a tv that will go in our living room. My neighbor was going to throw it away and gave it to us instead. It came with a stand, so I don't have to worry about figuring out what to put a giant tv on!</div>

It's small progress and it is going slower than I would like, but it is progress. </div>

I also have other news! I have a job interview on Tuesday! I am excited for this!<br />

<br />
This is the final installation of quick and easy meals to cook using meat. Today, I am going to share a meal I ate when I was a kid. I apparently make it differently than the rest of the family, but my family loves it "my way". It's <b>Potato </b><b>Chip</b> <b>Casserole</b>. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br />
Funny story about this dish, when B and I started dating, he thought I didn't know how to cook. I made him spaghetti and mac & cheese. Nothing else. I gave him options: potato chip casserole or sloppy joes. He went with sloppy joes. He said he was scared of the name. Also, his version of sloppy joes involved manwich. I have never had the stuff. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br />
On with the recipe! </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b><br /></b>
<b>Potato Chip Casserole </b></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b><br /></b>
<b>1 pound ground beef</b><br />
<b>1 can cream of mushroom soup</b><br />
<b>1 can chicken noodle soup</b><br />
<b>1 can sweet corn, drained </b><br />
<b>1 1/2 cups uncooked elbow noodles</b><br />
<b>Sliced American cheese </b><br />
<b>Potato chips </b></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<b><br /></b>
<b>-Preheat oven to 350° F. </b><br />
<b>-Cook your noodles according to the box. </b><br />
<b>-Cook your ground beef at the same time. Drain off excess grease. </b><br />
<b>-In a large bowl, dump chicken noodle soup, cream of mushroom soup, and drained canned corn. Add ground beef and noodles once they are fully cooked. </b><br />
<b>-Pour mixture into a casserole dish and spread evenly so the top is flat. </b><br />
<b>-Place sliced cheese over it in a single layer covering the entire top. </b><br />
<b>-Crush potato chips over the top of that in a layer to cover the cheese. </b><br />
<b>-Place in preheated oven for 20 to 30 minutes, or until cheese is melted. </b></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br />
If you aren't a fan of mushrooms, you can substitute cream of chicken. I don't have a casserole dish, so I use my 9x13 baking pan, we get more topping that way. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br />
My family loves this dish. I almost have to make a double batch. And yes, B isn't sure what he was so afraid of, he loves it now. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
I hope I have given Lindsay a start of ideas and recipes to begin with. I love cooking for the family and they love eating what I cook. <br />

The pair pictured, I got for Mother's Day from Charity and my sweet husband. I bought another pair for my birthday with some birthday money from my in-laws. The last pair we bought last weekend from DSW on clearance. Love them!! They are comfortable and I love the look of the flats they have!</div>

Last, is Lucky's food, <a href="http://nutrish.rachaelray.com/">Just 6 by Rachael Ray</a>. It is part of her Nutrish line and Lucky loves it. When we moved here, he was eating store brand (from Hy-Vee) dog food. He has a hard time with most brands, except the store brand stuff. We had him on Science Diet but it is super hard to find down here and it can get pricey, so on a whim, we tried this stuff. It has no fillers, just 6 ingredients. It works great for him and he has had no tummy problems on this food!</div>

I took a break from posting yesterday so I hope I didn't lose anyone! Today is another meat post involving ground beef. It is another family favorite here. Even when I make a double batch for Charity and I, there is still only a little left for one or two sandwiches for B. Its my <b>Homemade Sloppy Joes</b>. A little backstory: I ate this recipe as a kid, just not in my own home. My aunt always made it and I spent a lot of time with her and my uncle during summers and on weekends. When I moved into my own place, I wanted her recipe. My dad always made it by just putting BBQ sauce with ground beef. No thanks. So, here is my aunt's recipe:<br />
<br />
<b>Homemade Sloppy Joes</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>1 pound ground beef</b><br />
<b>1 tablespoon yellow mustard</b><br />
<b>1 tablespoon white vinegar</b><br />
<b>1/4 cup sugar <i>(yes, sugar, trust me on this)</i></b><br />
<b>Ketchup <i>(I have no measurement for this, I am sorry)</i></b><br />
<b><i><br /></i></b>
<b><i>-</i>Cook your ground beef in a skillet and drain the excess fat.</b><br />
<b>-Lower your temperature on the stove to LO; add the sugar, vinegar and mustard.</b><br />
<b>-Mix well and start adding ketchup. I always add enough to coat the beef. Mix well between adding in more ketchup. Taste it, if it tastes right to you, you are done. If not, add a little more ketchup, stir and taste. <i>I have gotten to the point that I just add enough ketchup to make it look "sloppy". I think its close to a cup.</i></b><br />
<b>-Serve on a bun or as we have always done, open face on a slice of bread.</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
I hope that I have given you all some ideas for some simple meals that don't take a rocket scientist to make, or a chef.<br />

This is another installment of the original question featured <a href="http://theoffaltruthandothermusings.blogspot.com/2013/07/ask-me-or-b.html">here</a>. Today, I will share a recipe using pork. Its another family favorite. Especially the homemade BBQ sauce! It is another one that uses a crockpot, but the main thing is the sauce. Today's is <b>BBQ Country Style Ribs.</b><br>

<b>To make the BBQ ribs, just put your country style ribs in your crockpot. If you are layering them, put a light layer of sauce between them. Otherwise, just cover the ribs barely. You will have lots of sauce leftover. </b><br>
<b>Cover and cook on LOW for 6-8 hours. <i>Again, I recommend LOW and slow, but if you need to hurry, just use high for 3-4 hours</i>. </b><br>
<b>When they are nice and brown, pull them from crockpot and add additional sauce over them.</b><br>
<b><br></b>
I usually make a double batch of the sauce so that when we eat anything else that is deserving of BBQ sauce, we always have some on hand. I even made this last year for Christmas gifts!<br>
<br>
Another take on this is to get a pork butt and cover it (slightly) with the BBQ sauce. Cook the same amount of time. Instead of immediately removing from the crockpot, shred it with 2 forks then put all the shredded pork into a bowl and mix with BBQ sauce. Serve it on buns and you have shredded pork sandwiches!<br>
<br>
Ever made your own sauces? I love making mine, we still have half a jar of it!<br>

Ok, ok, her name is actually Charity. And here she is!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Charity will be 10 on the 25th of this month. She is a fireball. She has been hitting the "tween" years pretty hard lately. (Check back a few earlier posts to witness some of the mayhem!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
She is in karate but also likes playing softball. In the summer, she becomes a fish. Her favorite color is pink. And she <i>loves</i> Hello Kitty. In the summer, she becomes a little fish. Her freckles or "angel kisses" as she likes to call them, have truly come out since our move to Texas. We love them and so does she!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I hope you enjoyed meeting Charity, for obvious reasons, I am not divulging too much information about her. She is the light of our life and I don't know what I would do without her spunk in my life. She is very smart, just needs to really apply herself.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Another installment of Ask me or B! Again, I am answering a question, previously mentioned <a href="http://theoffaltruthandothermusings.blogspot.com/2013/07/ask-me-or-b.html">here</a>. I am back today with one our family favorites <b>Pot Roast</b>! I found the recipe online and have since adapted it to our liking.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>Beef Pot Roast</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>-1 packet ranch dressing mix</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>-1 packet brown gravy mix</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>-1 packet italian dressing seasoning mix</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>-1/3 cup water</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>-pot roast (I ask at the meat counter what cut of meat is best for a pot roast)</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>-crock pot</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>-potatoes, cut into fairly large pieces</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>-"baby" carrots</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>-onions (optional), cut into wedges</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>-any other veggies you like with pot roast, maybe celery?</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>Mix ranch dressing mix, brown gravy mix, italian dressing seasoning mix and water together in a small bowl.</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>Place your meat into the crock pot. Pour the water mixture over it. Add onions, potatoes, and carrots (and any other vegetables you prefer) over it, I usually fill it full, we like leftover pot roast.</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>Plug in your crockpot and put it on LOW. Let it cook for 6-8 hours on LOW until potatoes and carrots are soft enough to put a fork into.</b> <i>You can cook it on high if you are in a crunch for 3-4 hours, I don't recommend it though. It is better with anything in the crockpot to cook it low and slow over a longer period of time. Things marinade better and there is a less chance of overcooking.</i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I love making this dish anytime. Its very filling and I can dump it all in the crockpot in the morning and come home to already made food! I love that!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Today, we have a question from a reader:<br />
<br />

<i style="background-color: black;"><span style="color: #cccccc;">Hi Jes! I was a pescatarian for the past two year but I recently started eating meat again. Do you have any suggestions for choosing and preparing red meat for an inexperienced cook? Any easy go to recipes I should start with?</span></i></div>
<div class="comment-content" id="bc_0_1MC" style="font-family: Nobile; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px; margin-bottom: 8px; text-align: justify;">
This will be a week long answer. Sounds kinda funny, but I don't want to bog down the blog with recipes in one post, so I will go with more than one day. Today, we are going to go with what is pictured: Country Fried Steak. This is very easy and simple to make. I love making it and B loves it! C, not so much but she might grow to love it. I almost always serve it with mashed potatoes (either homemade or instant) and a veggie. I love corn with mashed potatoes, so that is usually what I choose. So, without further ado....</div>
<div class="comment-content" id="bc_0_1MC" style="font-family: Nobile; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px; margin-bottom: 8px; text-align: justify;">

<div class="comment-content" id="bc_0_1MC" style="font-family: Nobile; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px; margin-bottom: 8px; text-align: justify;">
<b>1 package of already tenderized steaks (I always buy them pre-tenderized, but you can do this yourself)</b></div>
<div class="comment-content" id="bc_0_1MC" style="font-family: Nobile; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px; margin-bottom: 8px; text-align: justify;">

<div class="comment-content" id="bc_0_1MC" style="font-family: Nobile; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px; margin-bottom: 8px; text-align: justify;">
<b>-Put about 1/2 cup of flour in a bowl. Place one steak in the bowl and cover it lightly in flour.</b></div>
<div class="comment-content" id="bc_0_1MC" style="font-family: Nobile; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px; margin-bottom: 8px; text-align: justify;">
<b>-Once the oil is heated, put your flour covered steak in the pan. It will sizzle if it is heated enough, if it doesn't sizzle, it will once it gets hot.</b></div>
<div class="comment-content" id="bc_0_1MC" style="font-family: Nobile; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px; margin-bottom: 8px; text-align: justify;">

<p dir=ltr>It was almost 3 years ago when I got married and had the last name discussion was before that. I did take his last name leaving my maiden name for the males in my family to keep. C does have my maiden name, for now. I asked B about me keeping my maiden name, just for fun, and he was almost offended. He is from further south than I am and it is his mentality for me to take his last name. </p>
<p dir=ltr>Honestly, I just like asking questions to get opinions, I was going to take his last name anyways. I thought for half a second about hyphenating my name, but I wasn't that attached to it. And I am pretty sure my dad knew there would be a day that I took another last name. </p>
<p dir=ltr>The thought of B taking my last name and us having 2 last names, it's just silly. Call us old fashioned. I never had actually signed his last name until I got my new license a few days later. Now, I am very attached to it. </p>
<p dir=ltr>What did you do? Hyphen? Put your maiden name to your middle name? Take his like I did? Make up a whole new one? Or are you both sporting both last names? </p>
<p dir=ltr>XOXO <br>

So far, I have 2. There is a long list I want to add to my collection but slowly. I love them because they are durable, they last and have different colors and patterns to choose from. I went through so many purses before. I have both of these, just different patterns. </div>

B and I have been together over 4 years now. We have done many different things when we go out. Generally, we go window shopping when we are alone. We are able to concentrate better since C isn't around being the girl with a million questions. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
One thing we have never done: go to a movie together. Sure we have used Redbox, Blockbuster (when we live near one), Netflix, cable, and our own personal collection of movies. We have just never have gone to the theater. I have been with C and friends in the last 4 years. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
This summer, we are hoping to change that. We both really want to see Fast and Furious 6. We watched the one before on a TV (that we no longer have) and it was good, we had a giant 60 inch DLP with surround sound. We don't have that anymore. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
I hope we change this and get to watch a movie soon. </div>

This time, the chef and I went down to <a href="http://dannyspizzaarlington.com/">Danny's Pizza</a>.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_yfiOMoZtZPH8yV_i-zV-jbTA7PJJuJPMUzjOofD2oSZWA2MLMxEIRbTqEVRsm8XuLieiRgfolgFRlo0jdbw6Y2I9HAKYYm5GzLhDOn2vJN1pr8i2RDuV2v3RI88B7IgnVyP68Hk3VTM/s1600/20130630_180214.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_yfiOMoZtZPH8yV_i-zV-jbTA7PJJuJPMUzjOofD2oSZWA2MLMxEIRbTqEVRsm8XuLieiRgfolgFRlo0jdbw6Y2I9HAKYYm5GzLhDOn2vJN1pr8i2RDuV2v3RI88B7IgnVyP68Hk3VTM/s320/20130630_180214.jpg" width="240" /></a>We didn't have pizza this time though. Even though we are still looking for the elusive "perfect" pizza here in Arlington. We may have found it, but we will have to try it again just to be sure!<br />
<br />
Back to Danny's Pizza. B had heard about it since he meets Danny every morning when they are buying groceries for the restaurants, he had also been recommended by other people too. So, we walked in. Its a small place right off Cooper (the address on the site is wrong, FYI). Its very casual. You walk up to the counter and order. Then, you take a seat and one or both of Danny's daughters bring your food to you. Very homey feeling and sweet. Along the lines of something the B wouldn't mind doing someday.<br />
<br />
The decor was full of Chicago Bulls paraphanilia and a few other things (like a ceiling tile with UTA's mascot). Danny is from Chicago, so it explains it, but it doesn't feel like a "sports pizza joint", just personal.<br />
<br />
I ordered the Cheesy Beef Sandwich. I had it dipped and with sweet peppers. Very tasty. The bread was a really crusty, chewy bread meant for this type of sandwich. We got it in a combo, so it came with fries and a drink.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilEDzY2-Dq6GYvDkJNITo8vG1Z9cg7ChD_EhYoYgf0A5PTMnAfhrBPglPnVBFDfGs0iyu4X90okPdRd37z4T8rDENWkpBE-A214R2NyB0Ex9Q59kFXgjVdFzV3k1-qGWlvXuFKfxRQZKc/s1600/20130630_180812.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilEDzY2-Dq6GYvDkJNITo8vG1Z9cg7ChD_EhYoYgf0A5PTMnAfhrBPglPnVBFDfGs0iyu4X90okPdRd37z4T8rDENWkpBE-A214R2NyB0Ex9Q59kFXgjVdFzV3k1-qGWlvXuFKfxRQZKc/s320/20130630_180812.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
B ordered the Italian Beef Sandwich and a Chicago Dog. The Italian beef sandwich is exactly like mine, sans the cheese. B said that the Chicago Dog was made correctly, with the right relish (this is big for him) and a pickle spear. He was so impressed, he took a bite before I could get a picture in!<br />

Slowly I am coming out of anonymity. Starting small, baby steps people! </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz59p7TgY122EO33Q3R0a3-q7idfN4hVYyU-KeOVU8zwUU0FNsgAcpQrke4-HYhrwSEiO6mIJ_vnX0zN4IaWbH8AYlUxN8TA9nKuaCQrvFVcdDPM5avvgmxWwdzAok_ItjgThuq2hlCts/s1600/IMG_20130615_201010.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz59p7TgY122EO33Q3R0a3-q7idfN4hVYyU-KeOVU8zwUU0FNsgAcpQrke4-HYhrwSEiO6mIJ_vnX0zN4IaWbH8AYlUxN8TA9nKuaCQrvFVcdDPM5avvgmxWwdzAok_ItjgThuq2hlCts/s320/IMG_20130615_201010.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Lucky just turned a year and a half. I am always asked what breed he is, he is a bagle hound. A bagle hound is half bassett hound and half beagle (he has other stuff but he is mostly this). </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Since he is mostly a hunter, if you don't pay attention while you are taking him for a walk, he will see a squirrel or rabbit and try to take your arm off. Thankfully, I have learned if it's a squirrel, just let go. He will tree it and wait at the tree for you. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj83H9c_nGB1bmnhzl5fWUS9JE0z-rIvDpioGPoL1-EIkeHKJ8FK4QzinvLx-bBZ_A8LqofVDK5hR2OSn0Fuq00MCEGwOK9mEUy3ywH2SC0s6yMSppf6LKIv2CJKnCl8-gB26tujHu4jTU/s1600/IMG_20130610_233123.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj83H9c_nGB1bmnhzl5fWUS9JE0z-rIvDpioGPoL1-EIkeHKJ8FK4QzinvLx-bBZ_A8LqofVDK5hR2OSn0Fuq00MCEGwOK9mEUy3ywH2SC0s6yMSppf6LKIv2CJKnCl8-gB26tujHu4jTU/s320/IMG_20130610_233123.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div dir="ltr">
He has a great personality. He loves people and likes meeting new people. Just don't make him think you are trying to sneak up on me in the dark, he will growl, but not bite. He also loves meeting other dogs. He doesn't understand why other dogs don't want to meet him. He will cry if he can't meet your dog. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
He doesn't know many tricks, sit, up, and speak are pretty much all he knows, I have tried getting him to lay but it's been slow. He does know: kisses (or make a kissing noise and he gives them up, usually). He knows what bedtime is and prefers to sleep with his head on a pillow and sometimes a blanket, as long as it doesn't cover his face. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
He loves to chew, especially when he is anxious. We try to keep bones handy if we know he will go through a phase. However, he likes to murder stuffed animals, he dismembers them first, littlest to biggest. Then, the stuffing. Then the squeakers, he will play catch with himself until he loses these. He has the carcasses of many stuffed animals in his box. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Things he regularly plays with or chews: erasers, socks (usually B's), underwear, pens, pencils, straws, and cups. He hasn't chewed a pair of shoes since last summer and they were a pair of flip flops. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
I can't think of much else, <u>except</u> if you come to my house and we eat chips, expect to share. He also likes green beans. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Lucky is also terrified of random items. Such as: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>tape measure. We think this has to do with when he was a puppy, we lived on my father in-laws property and he was constantly using tape measure, then some sort of drill or saw. We think the loud noise of the drill scared him.</li>
<li>vacuum. You can catch him running wildly from it whenever it is on.</li>
<li>lighters/lit candles. I think he may have gotten to close to one before.</li>
<li>rain/water. He is a giant sissy!</li>
<li>thunder. He is not a fan of thunderstorms. He will cuddle up with you just to keep him safe.</li>
</ul>
All in all, we are lucky to have him around. He freely gives his affection, even when he doesn't want to go for a walk just to sniff or you have some food he would like a taste of.<br />

Many of you know that I went to culinary school. I went for baking and pastries for a year. I am ServSafe certified and I cook at home. B is an amazing chef and has worked in many nationally known restaurants.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
We get approached often by family and friends about food related questions. We don't mind, it's a huge compliment. We are opening it up to you. Ask me or B. We can answer many questions related to food, food gadgets, cooking, baking, etc. Also, B is pretty well versed in pairing certain wines and beers with meals. Any questions pertaining to how I deal with being a chef's wife are also welcome! </div>

With our anniversary nearing, it was time for me to think about what to get B. I was looking at a blog and I came across a link in the comment section for <a href="http://www.redenvelope.com/">Red Envelope</a>. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Never heard of them so I checked them out. Sometimes I am stumped on what to get him since he is such a simple man. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
I was in luck. In their "For Him" section, I found these guys:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNtgQjCTyWyXW0yNm2eCwQRNYGRNZzzcLhldoOP1g597zyaR1ZqJg9hjA9qIDEjADGoqKP-MpYf5xXQ_iSJ_OGChxXsO538MGcyDLYNzRSYUcDtRi_Bt_Y3xlMCaNo_4QXoG3KnwyIq9c/s140/F13_TX401897_W001_SQ.bin" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNtgQjCTyWyXW0yNm2eCwQRNYGRNZzzcLhldoOP1g597zyaR1ZqJg9hjA9qIDEjADGoqKP-MpYf5xXQ_iSJ_OGChxXsO538MGcyDLYNzRSYUcDtRi_Bt_Y3xlMCaNo_4QXoG3KnwyIq9c/s400/F13_TX401897_W001_SQ.bin" width="342" /></a></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
A simple Google search and I had a 20% off coupon added to my order <i>if I </i><i>used a </i><i>visa </i><i>card, </i><i>which I </i><i>did. </i>And it was on its way. Shipping was a little costly, they use FedEx, but with my discount, it was only $25.something. Not bad in my book for a gift he will love. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
They came today and they are perfect. We are the type of people who can't surprise each other often, he already knew they were coming since after I ordered them, I freaked out and thought he wouldn't like them. He got them today and loves them. He wants to make them into wall hangings but he will have to wait until at least our actual anniversary (July 9th) before I will alter them for him. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Any gifts you have given that weren't a surprise? Given cotton for a different anniversary than 2nd?</div>
<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
XOXO <br />

I was talking with some friends and I haven't shared this part of our story. </p>
<p dir=ltr>A little backstory first: when B and I started dating, I didn't have a car. He technically didn't either. B bought a car, a 1993 Cadillac DeVille with a gold grill. Fancy, right? That car became Betsy. She thought she was a truck and he bought her in November 2009. We weren't together very long but he had me put the car in my name. So we shared the car until February 2010 from different residences. Weird right? </p>
<p dir=ltr>We were living together after that and sometimes he would borrow a car from a co-worker, the night in April, I had Betsy and he had a borrowed truck. He called me to invite me to dinner at a pizza joint he liked. </p>
<p dir=ltr>I showed up and we were across the parking lot from each other. He calls me and says he thinks he burned a hole in the seat and could I come look at it? <i>I </i><i>thought </i><i>this was </i><i>weird </i><i>because </i><i>he </i><i>doesn't </i><i>smoke. </i>I went anyways. </p>
<p dir=ltr>He steps back from the truck, mind you, we are in the middle of a parking lot. On the seat is a box. He coaxes me to hold it, but I don't open it. The next moments seem to have lasted a lifetime. </p>
<p dir=ltr>I am standing at the driver's side door holding a <i>ring? </i>box. While he is dancing by the truck bed on the same side. He says "I've just got one question." <i>more </i><i>dancing. </i>I say, "uh huh." <i>still holding the closed box. </i>He repeats himself and so do I, this goes on for another time except I say, "yea?"</p>
<p dir=ltr>He responds, <i>still dancing</i>," will you marry me?" I actually say nothing. Instead, I open the box to find a diamond solitaire ring and slip it on my finger. I hug him, I kiss him and while still embraced, he says, "so, is that a yes?" <i>Doh! </i> I hadn't said anything! Of course it was a yes! </p>
<p dir=ltr>I still laugh at that day and that moment. He never saw me slip the ring on my finger. We were in a dim parking lot at night. I still laugh that I married a wonderful man, who proposed marriage in a parking lot! If you ask him, he says it's because that is who we are, we are one of a kind. We had late night meals, met up with each other. It has been crazy and fun and we wouldn't have it any other way. </p>
<p dir=ltr>XOXO <br>
Jes </p>

Or just stuff that I love! </div>

<div dir="ltr">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I actually don't wear much make up. I do however always have at least one <b>Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm</b> handy! I starting using it about 9 years ago. They weren't hugely popular yet and only came in a tin not the tube they come in now. The stuff works wonders!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr">
Lucky has been shedding up a storm. Last year, there wasn't this much shedding. So, I broke down and bought a <b>FURminator.</b><b> </b>Love it! I first saw a video for it at a vet's office in Berryville, Arkansas. I asked them about it and they swear by it. It was on sale a few weeks ago and I got the small one at the pet store. I now swear by it. I swear Lucky lost 2 pounds in one brushing.</div>

<div dir="ltr">
Last for today, I bought an <b>Aladdin water bottle</b>. It's from Walmart and is BPA free. The top of it unscrews so you can put ice in it without having to buy a special tray for water bottle ice cubes. I try to keep it full and refill it often. </div>
<div dir="ltr">
Just a few things that I love! Stay tuned for another installment next week! </div>
